GN Bank Launches Mobile Money Service in Sinoe

GREENVILLE, Sinoe – GN Bank has launched its GN Mobile Money Service in Sinoe, as the bank has recruited 35 agents in the county for the launch of the initiative.

Speaking on Thursday, Feb. 27 during an interview that aired on a local radio station in Greenville, the bank’s business development officer, Clarence Cooper, and members of the awareness team, said the new service would provide “total convenience” to customers, as it would help ease long queues at bank offices for transactions as basic as deposits and withdrawals.

With the new service, customers can send and receive money from their bank accounts using basic feature phones.

“You do not need to have an account before you access the GN Mobile Money, but rather a person can use their mobile wallet to even save up to a million dollars on their phone,” Cooper explained. The public, he said, can register for the GN service by simply dialing *545#, and following the instructions thereafter.

Also speaking during the radio program was the manager of Sinoe’s GN Bank branch, Joseph Tuo, who stressed the advantages of the service in helping reduce long lines and long wait times at the bank for its many customers in the county.

Tuo said the 35 agents recruited in the county would receive a commission for each transaction they facilitated. The bank would take 45 percent of transaction fees while the agents would keep the rest.

In Sinoe, GN Bank is launching its mobile money service in partnership with the telecommunications giant, Lonestar Cell MTN.

As more and more individual daily transactions such as mobile phone usage and payment, domestic and international remittances, bill payments, payroll deposits, and purchases of goods and services go online, Tuo said, the banking sector which supports these transactions must also become digital.

It is this kind of service, he said, that his bank in partnership with Lonestar Cell MTN Mobile Money, is aiming to provide its many customers across in Sinoe and Liberia.
