MONROVIA, Montserrado – Judge Kennedy Peabody of the Monrovia City Court jailed a member of the Police Support Unit on June 6, three days after the suspect was arrested for stealing US$17,030 from 20 individuals.
According to the police charge sheet, Alexander Toe told individuals in search of accommodations that he had one, two, and three bedroom apartments in the New Matadi Estate community for rent. Several individuals reported that after they paid Toe, he refused to turn over the apartments they were promised and did not refund their money.
The police report was thorough, including receipts signed and issued to complainants by the defendant.

Toe admitted to receiving the monies and the Liberia National Police has dismissed him for his actions.
This is not the first time an officer has been caught violating the law. In May 2014, two officers were dismissed for soliciting and taking bribes. Hundfrey Kahn was dismissed after he received L$30 (US$0.33) from a taxi driver while Varney Massally was caught soliciting bribe on the Capitol Bye-Pass.
Police Director Chris Massaquoi has continuously called on the public to expose police officers engaged in any form of police misconduct.
