Information provided by telecommunications firms and their customers revealed that last week, Lonestar’s network was hit in attacks causing internet outages, although reports that hackers took down the entire country’s internet appear to have been overblown.
The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning has prepared and submitted its budget for the upcoming fiscal year, 2016-2017. Understandably in anticipation of the 2017 elections, the National Elections Commission sees the greatest percentage increase in budget allocation.
Liberia has taken a step forward in allowing for cheaper and faster communications between telecommunications operators within the country. The establishment of Liberia’s Internet Exchange Point is meant to allow local operators to interconnect and exchange information directly, as opposed to communicating with each other through gateways in Europe and the US.
