School Closure Extended by One Week, National Exams Indefinitely Suspended

Major educational activities are being suspended across the country, as the Ministry of Education has extended its mandate to suspend classes by an additional one week while the Liberia office of the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has indefinitely suspended its 2020 exams.

World Bank Launches US$47 Million Effort to Improve Results in Secondary Education

The World Bank has partnered with the Liberian government to launch a new effort to improve results at the secondary level of Liberia’s education system. The project, Improve Results in Secondary Education, otherwise known as IRISE, is a US$47 million effort sponsored by the World Bank through a grant signed with the government in July 2019.

Rising Academies, a private operator of public schools under the government’s LEAP private-public partnership, has finished rehabilitating the main campus of the Sinoe Elementary Demonstration School in Greenville District, following nearly two years of disrepair and deplorable conditions.

MOE Announces New Eligibility Rules for Senior High Graduations

The Ministry of Education has announced new eligibility criteria for senior high school graduates across the country. Going forward, the ministry will now require all senior high school students to pass at least three subjects in the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, or WASSCE, in order to be eligible to participate in formal graduation ceremonies.
