Tubman University Temporarily Relieves Barnes for Alleged Bribery

HARPER, Maryland – Tubman University authorities have temporarily relieved Roland T. Barnes of his position pending the outcome of an investigation into kickbacks he allegedly received from a construction company.

Barnes was the associate vice president for administration and campus operations.

Tubman University’s newly appointed president, Edward Lama Wonkeryor, confirmed the university’s action via phone today. The university is expected to soon issue a press release on the matter.

Wonkeryor said a committee had been constituted to investigate Barnes’ involvement in the corruption allegations.

The alleged bribery was uncovered by The Bush Chicken after anonymous members of the university’s faculty senate provided leaked documents. Employees from the construction company GBECCO also provided incriminating evidence against Barnes.

Barnes allegedly received a portion of US$60,000 in bribes from a US$75,000 contract to renovate the university’s engineering building in addition to US$20,000 in bribes from a US$151,000 contract.
