27-Year-Old Maryland Woman Drowns

PLEEBO, Maryland − A 27-year-old woman in Pleebo Sodoken district has been found dead in a stream of water two days after she went missing.

According to a family member, Dorathy Nyemah left her home on June 1 to set fishing baskets but did not return until her body was found floating face up in a stream on June 10 following a massive search conducted by community members.

George Hoto-Sune, Nyemah’s uncle, said his niece has always gone to the stream in the evenings to set her fishing baskets before returning to check the morning catches.

“Every morning of the next day, she would return to the stream to revisit the baskets in hunt of fish,” he said. Hoto-Sune said family members were shocked when Nyemah did not return home on the evening of June 1.

A team of medical practitioners examined Nyemah’s body in the presence of Detective Jimmy T. Kaydor, head of the Liberia National Police’s Crime Services Division in Pleebo. The medical team confirmed that she died by drowning.

A 15-man coroner jury also examined Nyemah’s remains and further confirmed the death by drowning, with no foul play observed.

The body has been presented to family members for burial. Nyemah left behind two children, who are now staying with family members in Old Sodoken.
