With two weeks to another season of the British Basketball League, new signee Saah Nimely has already kicked off to a good start with new club, Newcastle Eagles in Great Britain.
The Liberian-born point guard took a new leap in his career when he left the Big South NCAA Conference side Charleston Southern University last month to sign with the BBL record champions.
Nimely, who won two championships and an MVP award with Charleston, moved to Britain to replace American Rahmon Fletcher who left for Slovakian top-flight club, KB Kosice. Since his arrival at Newcastle, the 5ft 3in point guard has enjoyed a perfect start to life in the British league after recording straight three wins in preseason matches.
He made his debut for the Eagles against American-select and played a major role in helping the British outclass their American counterparts, winning 128-78. One week after his debut, Nimely led the Eagles to another victory, scoring 26 points to beat Glasgow Rocks 110-77 at the Benfield Sports Centre. The 26 points scored made him the highest scorer in the match.
The Liberian basketballer continued to win the hearts of the Eagles with his impressive form in their final pre-season game against North Umbria on Sunday, September 17. Despite standing at a disadvantaged height on the court, the former Charleston star player scored an impressive 30 points to help his side win 117-67.
Scoring 56 points in his last two games, there’s no doubt that he’s going to make a big impact in the BBL as the Eagles plan to kick off their 2017-18 campaign on September 29 against Leeds Force at the Carnegie Sports Centre.
