• 15 Liberians Chosen For MWF 2015: The Mandela Washington Fellowship (formerly known as President Barrack Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative) has chosen 15 Liberians for the Fellowship’s 2015 edition in the United States.[..] the fellowship is all about capitalizing on the creativity and talent of Africa’s young leaders by empowering them with the skills, training and technology necessary to bring about lasting change and meaningful progress in their countries.[..] The fellowship will take them to various universities and colleges across the United States where they will undergo weeks of intensive training and in various disciplines, including Business Entrepreneurship, Public Service, Community Service, Governance, amongst others. • WAEC gets first woman chair, The 63rd Annual Meeting of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has ended in Lagos, Nigeria with the election of Dr D. Evelyn S. Kandakai of Liberia as the 18th Chairman of the sub-regional organisation. Dr. Kandakai is the first female to be elected to the position in the 63-year history of the Council.(Citi 97.3 FM)
• Germany promises more support to Liberia post Ebola recovery plan.The assurance was revealed by the German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Gerd Muller. The German delegation, co-led by the German Minister of Health, Hermann Groehe, are in the country primarily to assess the impact of German contribution to the Government of Liberia’s fight against Ebola.(SpyGhana)
• Rebuilding Ebola-Hit Economy Focus of World Bank Spring Event: Ahead of this week’s spring meetings in Washington, DC World Bank Group President Dr. Jim Yong Kim says the bank would be announcing a major new effort to rebuild the economies of Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone, three West African nations hit hard by the deadly Ebola virus outbreak. World Bank Group President says, “We’re going to be focusing on many issues, especially energy. • The government of Liberia says it has adopted a plan for the transition of the departure of the United Nations Mission in the post-war nation. The implementation of the Plan has been set at US$104.848 million, much of which is expected to be mobilized by the Liberian government.The amount, according to the Government of Liberia emphasizes the need for increased donor support to the security sector and ensure that peace is sustained after UNMIL completes its drawdown.(Front Page Africa)
