Adolphus Marshall Scores to Rescue Gudja United’s Hopes of Qualification

Liberian international Adolphus Marshall helped his Maltese Club Gudja United grab a narrow 3-2 win over Zejtun Corinthians to get one step closer to qualifying for the Maltese Premier League.

Marshall’s Gudja United went into the match sitting at the second spot on the table and needed a win to close the gap on league leaders, Sirens Football Club. Playing at home, Gudja United’s hopes were rocked in the first half when the visitors took an early lead. Zejtun took the lead in the 14th minute through Johann Castano and dominated in the first half. Gudja United nearly went to the break with a goal down but restored their hopes a minute to end of the first half through Llywelyn Cremona, who leveled the score.

After the break, Gudja United returned stronger to take the lead in the 69th minute. Adolphus Marshall got the needed goal and his team defended that position until the 84th minute when Johann Castano added his second of the match. Castano leveled the score but Gudja United restored their lead two minutes later to snatch the three points.

The win strengthened Gudja United at the second position on the league table with 45 points from 21 games. They are four points behind Sirens Football Club that is leading the table with 49 points.
