Sam Johnson’s Real Salt Lake has bowed out of the 2019 U.S. Open Cup after losing to high-flying Los Angeles Football Club at home.
Instead of them celebrating their qualification to the next round of the knockout competition, Johnson and his teammates saw their visitors celebrate a 3-0 triumph.
Goals from Mexican international Carlos Vel, American midfielder Lee Nguyen, and Norwegian striker Adama Diomande were enough to end Real Salt Lake’s journey in the 2019 US Open Cup.
Johnson might have adapted to football in the U.S. with personal achievements such as his five goals for his new club, but the Liberian international striker continues to endure frustration with team-level achievements.
Real Salt Lake will now focus on the regular league games in the Major League Soccer, where they are fighting for a place in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. They are seated seventh on the eastern conference log with 19 points from 15 games, 18 points behind league leaders, Los Angeles Football Club.
Real Salt Lake will continue their fight for a playoff spot on Sunday, June 23 when they travel to play the Chicago Fire on June 23 at the Toyota Stadium.
