Police Retrieved Stolen Vehicle From Armed Robbers

MONROVIA, Montserrado – The Liberia National Police has arrested and retrieved a vehicle from two alleged armed robbers in connection to a September 20 robbery in Gbarnga, Bong.

A police press statement named the two alleged armed robbers as 18-year-old Salee Kalibah and 19-year-old Simond Sumo.

On September 20, police said a group of criminals armed with machetes and a single barrel gun broke into the home of Joe Kollie, a local scratch card dealer in Bong, and wounded his 50-year-old mother, Esther Kollie, on her left breast.

“The alleged armed robbers also wounded the scratch card dealer’s sister, Marie Kollie, on her neck and nephew Papay Kollie on his right shoulder,” the police statement said.

The armed robbers apparently made away with US$250, L$185,000 (US$889) and assorted scratch cards.

After a thorough search, police said Kalibah and Sumo were arrested, investigated, and duly charged with the crimes of murder and theft of property.

In a related development, the police also said their counterparts in Bong had begun a full-scale investigation into an alleged armed robbery which occurred at the Chinese Lee Group of Companies compound in Nyanfola District on September 21.

“Initial investigation confirmed that the suspected armed robbers entered the company’s facility, flogged, and tied one of the security guards and took away one Nissan Almera vehicle and other assorted items,” police noted.

“The stolen Nissan Almera vehicle has been retrieved and impounded at the Margibi Police detachment as investigations continues,”
