GANTA, Nimba – Several persons affected by the recent flooding in the Glenyieluu community of Ganta have received separate assistances from Nimba’s district one representative, Jeremiah Koung and a politician Amos N. G. Suah.

Making the donation yesterday in Ganta, Koung’s Chief of Staff, Nelson Bryant, said it was the representative’s way of identifying with the flood victims. “This morning, we, as staffs in the office of Hon. Koung, are here to make these donations on his behalf.”

Bryant said the representative was donating 40 bags of cement and five bags of rice, among other items.

The worst-affected households were headed by Delena Flomo, Daniel Lamah, Holder Yormie and Rufus Suah. They benefited the most from the lawmaker’s donation, although other victims received food items too.

Lincoln Y. Paye, the representative for the community, received the items on behalf of the victims. He thanked Koung and his office staff for aiding his community.

Suah, who early this year declared his intention to contest the seat held by Koung, made his donation of five bags of rice to the flood victims. “This is my own way of identifying with you people and saying sorry for what you are going through at this time.”

Both men have said promised to identify with the victims in subsequent time and term their donations as initial.

Two weeks ago, residents of the Glenyieluu community along the St. John River experienced flooding as a result of the river overflowing during a torrential downpour of rain that lasted for two days.

The incident is not the first of its kind. Residents of the area suffered from flooding last year as a result of the overflow of the St. John River. The St. John River is one of the six major rivers of Liberia, originating from the Guinea Highlands and flowing into the Atlantic Ocean in Grand Bassa.
