GANTA, Nimba – The representative for Nimba’s first district, Jeremiah Kpan Koung, has embarked on the construction of a 100-bed health center in Ganta.
In a statement made by the lawmaker earlier this month on Voice of Gompa‘s “The Forum,†he said it is his way of responding to the confidence and trust given to him by the people.
Koung said Ganta needed an additional healthcare facility to respond to health issues arising from the community and surrounding areas.
“Right now, Ganta Methodist alone cannot contain the health needs of our people,†Koung asserted. “We saw the need of coming in to support the effort of the Ganta Methodist Hospital. Presently, our hospital project is almost at the finishing stage, and we hope to make it accessible to the public very soon.â€
Victor W. Kpaiseh, the resource officer at Koung’s Ganta office, said this was a realization of a dream for the lawmaker.
He said facilities at the hospital would include 100 beds to contain pediatric wards, ten private rooms, and x-ray machine, laboratory facilities, and three pharmacies.
“We are currently negotiating to see how we can get a CT scan here at the hospital,†Kpaiseh said. “The one in Tappita [at the Jackson F. Doe Regional Referral Hospital] is down, and they are still trying to repair it. If we have one here, this will ease some our health problems.â€
Kpaiseh revealed that the cost of the entire project is at a little over US$ 2 million.
