PLEEBO, Maryland — The body of a 23-year-old man identified as Victor Wilson, Jr. was discovered in a creek in Pleebo, Maryland County. Authorities say he died of drowning.
Wilson was discovered in the creek in Gebio community on April 30, a day after he went missing. The father of the deceased, Victor Wilson, Sr., said his son was last seen on the evening of April 29 before his body was discovered in the creek.
“My son has not returned until his dead body [is] lying before my eyes,” Wilson told The Bush Chicken on the scene of the discovery of his son’s corpse. He said the late Wilson suffered from psychotic disorders for the past two years.
Upon the discovery, a 15-person coroner jury investigated the body and found no foul play involved.
Binney Neufville, a registered nurse from the Pleebo Health Center, told journalists that upon his arrival at the scene, Wilson was already dead. Neufville also confirmed that there was no physical wound or any visible sign of foul play.
The police team’s leader, Detective Jimmy T. Kaydor of the Crimes Services Department, also confirmed no foul play and said Wilson died of drowning.
“The body was lying downward floating over the water with the victim wearing [a pair of] short jeans trousers, [with] no shirt. [There was] no foul play – which is there were no body parts extracted; all body parts were intact,” he said.
The incident drew the concern of community dwellers, prompting the Liberia National Police to launch an investigation.
The youth chair of Pleebo, Augustine B. Freeman, expressed sadness over the death of a young man in the city.
