TOE TOWN, Grand Bassa – An accident involving a Toyota 4Runner and a taxi on the Buchanan-Monrovia highway has left four persons seriously injured.
Eyes witnesses told The Bush Chicken that the taxi carrying four passengers and the driver was excessively speeding on Thursday when it collided with the larger vehicle.
The 4Runner was traveling from Buchanan while the taxi was on its way from Monrovia, but both drivers were claiming to be right as no police was on the accident scene.
“The Jeep driver just spoiled my car for nothing,†Abraham Kamara, the taxi driver said. “I don’t know if he was drunk, because the liquor was in his car.â€
The four passengers were taken to a hospital as the two drivers remained on the scene, waiting for police.
The driver of the 4Runner, only identified as Alex, said he was in the proper lane when the taxi ran into him.
“My car is still parked on my lane facing Monrovia, as you can see,†driver Alex said. “That taxi cannot push this big jeep from the opposite lane as he is claiming.â€
This is the second motor accident on the highway in less than a week. A few days earlier, two trucks collided, leaving at least one person dead and several severely wounded.
According to the World Health Organization, Liberia has the second worst rate of road traffic deaths in sub-Saharan Africa after Malawi.
