GOMPA, Nimba – Commissioner Sam N. Whyee of Nimba’s Doe Administrative District has vowed to boycott the next County Council Sitting, along with other citizens from his district.
He said the citizens’ action is in protest of the fact that the district has been denied the chance at development on several occasions. Whyee said since he took over as commissioner of the district in 2012, his constituency has not benefitted from any development despite project proposals he has submitted.
Each county receives an allotment in the national budget to conduct development projects under the County Development Funds scheme.
After the allocation of the funds, leaders from all parts of the county converge in a meeting, referred to as the County Council Sitting, to formulate a plan of action for spending the funds that are allotted for the fiscal period.
Although Nimba has not yet reached a date for the County Council Sitting, Whyee said he has already made up his mind to stay away from this year’s process.
“What is the significance for Doe Administrative District citizens to continue to go for County Council Sitting?†Whyee asked. “We are not seeing anything like development in our district.â€
Whyee said he had no option but to register his dissatisfaction through a protest.
“They have not touched any of our roads,†he added. “Look at Gblor Dialah road. The road is completely down. And other roads in the district, people use their hands to fix these roads and even bridges. For what?â€
Nimba’s superintendent is expected to schedule a date for a County Council Sitting whenever funding is available. That meeting will be presided over by the chairman of the Nimba County Legislative Caucus.
