MONROVIA, Liberia – Agents of the Executive Protective Service have accused the authorities of the subjecting them to inhumane treatment on a daily basis. The servicemen complained of working overtime without no time allotted for lunch.
The serviceman told Bush chicken that they routinely work up to 18 hours a day without any lunch break and by right they should have three shifts on a daily basis.
“This is cruel my friend and you cannot treat the human being like this. Even our colleagues who are working in the night under the dew have no coffee breakâ€, one guard said.
According to the servicemen, they want total reform in the EPS in order to restore sanity to the organization.
Our EPS sources explained further that since the reorganization of the presidential elite guard and the rebranding of the unit, the group continues to use old accessories of the defunct Special Security Services.
“We are no longer under the SSS my brother, but we are still using SSS uniform and accessories. The EPS has no official uniform, and they claimed that we are a new unit,†one guard noted.
In a recent article, disgruntled servicemen of the presidential guard unit confided to The Bush Chicken that they are underpaid and lack the benefits afforded to their counterparts in other African countries.
All efforts by The Bush Chicken to get a response from authorities of the EPS has proved futile. The National Security Advisor to the Liberian Leader, H. Boima Fahnbulleh has maintained that he will not discuss security matter with no security person. The Director of the EPS, Frank Nyenka, also refused to comment.
