HARBEL, Margibi – Flood victims in Lower Margibi say they are still homeless despite promises made to them by county authorities to relocate them.
Isaac Kulah, the spokesman for a group of victims in Dolo Town, said they are still seeking shelter in inhospitable places such as schools and video clubs.
Kulah said the situation continues to pose health threats to them.
“This thing is causing us a lot of trauma,†he said. “Even our health is threatened by the health risks we face here.â€
Kulah said since the flood destroyed their homes, they have only received promises that remain unfulfilled.
“The county authorities promised to relocate us, but since then, they have not returned,†he added.
The Head of the Margibi Disaster Management Team, Tah Sackie had said the county would relocate the flood victims.
Sackie has however said there is no money to construct a transit camp for the victims.
He said the World Food Program and other organizations who had promised to help relocate the victims had withdrawn their commitment.
“The partners we depended on have said they are no longer in helping us,†he said.
He disclosed that a total of 8,000 residents were affected by the flood and about 2,000 had their homes completely destroyed.
