It was an all Liberian affair in the Myanmar National League over the weekend when league toppers Yadanarbon played away at second placed Hantharwady United.
Soccer fans gathered at the 40,000 Bogyoke Aung San Stadium to watch Melvin George’s Hantharwady United welcome Keith Nah’s Yadanarbon in round ten of the Myanmar national league.
A win for Hantharwady would have seen them moved to the top of the table while Yadanarbon would drop second.
However, it was Yadanarbon that got all three points away from home after a comfortable 3-1 win to extend their lead at the top with five points.
A brace from Nah and a goal from Aung Thu were enough to see visitors Yadanarbon grab all three points.
Yadanarbon controlled much of the opening minutes before taking the lead through Aung Thu, who beat Hantharwady’s keeper right within the penalty area by placing the ball in the upper left corner.
Four minutes later, Nah doubled Yadanarbon’s lead after capitalizing on Melvin George’s defensive blunder from outside the penalty area. The 23-year-old added his second of the match in the 32nd minute with a header.
Hantharwady pulled one back nine minutes before the first half through Ivorian striker Gaoussou Bamba.
Down 3-1, Hantharwady tried making a comeback with brilliant efforts that were denied by a stubborn Yadanarbon defense.
There were no goals scored in the second half as Yadanarbon walked away as the winner after the sound of the final whistle.
Yadanarbon remains at the top of the league table with 26 points from 10 games while Keith scored his ninth league goal from ten matches
