MONROVIA, Montserrado – The Lone Star football team has departed the country for Equatorial Guinea to honor a friendly match which is scheduled for Sunday, July 21.
The nation’s pride and joy left on Wednesday, July 17 via the Roberts International Airport. They will transit through Cote d’Ivoire before flying for Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, where the game will be played.
After weeks of preparation for the African Nations Championship qualifiers against Senegal, Lone Star’s head coach Thomas Kojo named 18 players for the friendly encounter. The team departed with a 27-man delegation headed by the Liberia Football Association executive committee member Beatrice Mamie Kpoto.
Assistant coach Sam Chebli, goalkeeping coach Eric Glasco, and trainer George Gebro, kitman Tommy Johnson, and the national team administrative manager Sebastain Collins are all part of the delegation. Others are Solomon Wah and the team physiotherapist Patrick Konuwa.
As expected, the first division top scorers Christopher Jackson and Varney Dukuly made the final 18-man squad. Dirkir Glay and Isaac Pupo return to the Lone Star after years of absence while LISCR Football Club’s youngster Armah Vaikianah and LPRC Oilers goalkeeper Prince Wlame made the Lone Star match squad for the first time in their career.
