KAKATA, Margibi – Authorities with the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency in Kakata have charged and sent to court a 48-year-old man, Jacob Clinton, for unlicensed possession of narcotic substances and for illegal possession of a firearm.
He was formally arraigned before the Kakata Magisterial Court for prosecution on Tuesday.
Jacob was arrested last Friday during a routine patrol by LDEA officers in Kakata. He was found with several parcels of marijuana and an ‘illicit milk candy.’
The milk candy looks like an ordinary candy but is infused with extracts of marijuana.
Clinton was also arrested with a pistol that was said to have been made in Guinea.
Speaking in an interview with The Bush Chicken at the offices of the LDEA, Clinton admitted selling marijuana to earn a living for his wife and six children. He also admitted that he himself has been a user of the illegal drug since his youthful days.
Clinton alleged that he was an aide to the Liberia Immigration Service, having been recruited in 2012, but he said he had not received compensation from the agency since then, leading him to the drug trade.
“I am an aide for the immigration, since 2012 I had been working without pay although I went for in-service training and this is why I sell this grass to feed me and my family,†he said.
When contacted, the immigration commander in Margibi, Lieutenant Colonel Charles Brooks, denied Clinton’s claims of being associated with the Liberia Immigration Service.
Brooks even denied ever having met Clinton in person. However, multiple sources confirmed to The Bush Chicken that they had seen Clinton wearing the LIS uniform, in addition to executing the functions of the agency.
