Ministry of Health Driver Nabbed for Murder of Market Woman

MONROVIA, Montserrado – Police have charged a suspect in the case of a murdered businesswoman who was traveling from Fissibu, Lofa to Monrovia.

The Liberia National Police have identified 39-year-old Miller Komeh as the main suspect in the murder of Yassah Mulbah Zumo.

According to the police charge sheet, eyewitness accounts revealed that the victim, a resident of the GSA Road community in Paynesville, travelled to Fissibu on May 27 to purchase goods.

On June 3, the victim informed her husband, Kalavah G. Mulbah, that she was traveling back to Monrovia in a vehicle belonging to an NGO, although The Bush Chicken later established that the vehicle was owned by the Ministry of Health.

The driver reportedly charged the victim L$2,500 (US$27.78) for the trip to Monrovia, which included other passengers. The victim arrived in Kakata at 9:45 p.m. and the rest of the passengers disembarked.

Police say the victim had been maintaining occasional communication with her husband. At this moment, she informed him that she was afraid because she was left alone with the driver.

“The victim husband informed his deceased wife to go and spend the night at her niece’s house at the staff quarter in the Booker Washington Institute German Community in Kakata,” the police charge sheet read.

At her niece’s house, the victim knocked several times at the door, but there was no answer.

“The victim again informed her husband that there was no one in her niece house and decided to ride with the driver to Monrovia,” the charge sheet further read.

Investigators say while Mulbah was communicating with his wife, he reported hearing a male voice in the background saying, “You woman, your man business is too hard. I left Kolahun hospital since this morning and I’m tired. Hurry up let us go. You are also giving me a hard time and if you do not get into the vehicle, I will leave you here.”

Police investigators further established that this was the last time Mulbah heard from his wife. Her lifeless body was found dumped on June 4 at the Todee Junction on the Monrovia-Kakata highway. Her phone was next to her but her goods had been taken away.

The police could not establish where the alleged murder took place but said there were no signs of an automobile accident or traces of blood and debris.

Defendant Komeh has denied being involved in the victim’s murder. He said he dropped her off with her goods in Kakata near the transport union office although no one else has confirmed Komeh’s claims.

The vehicle driven by the defendant also appeared to have traces of blood on the left front tire and the carpet, according to police.

At the court, the handcuffed Komeh was smiling as he was escorted and said he would be cleared of charges leveled against him.

The vehicle involved in the alleged murder is a Land Cruiser pickup which belongs to the Ministry of Health. The vehicle has the license plate number LB 1211 and is labelled GSA-MOH-04-38. It had been assigned to the Kolahum Hospital in Lofa County.
