GANTA, Nimba – On Sunday, May 10, the women of Ganta Bethel Central Church celebrated Mother’s Day with the theme, “Who Can Find A Mother With a Noble Christian Character?â€
The sermon was delivered by a guest preacher, Rev. Phelecia Fahnbulleh of the Global Free Pentecostal Church in Toweh Yard Community, Ganta City.
The celebration of Mother’s Day began in the United States in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother at St. Andrew’s Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia, which now holds the International Mother’s Day Shrine.
Although it is unclear how and when Mother’s Day came to Liberia, the celebration has gone on for several decades in the country. Many Liberians, especially Christians, now observe the day each year.
Fahnbulleh encouraged mothers to exemplify true Christian qualities. She said intelligence, capability, virtuousness, hospitality and showing love for all were some of the qualities that bring honorable recognitions.
“If a woman is found with all these, that woman is considered a noble Christian woman,†Fahnbulleh said. “In addition to these qualities, a noble Christian mother should carry a character of mentorship.â€
The guest preacher asked mothers to mentor younger women to live in accordance with biblical standards that will add value to their lives in whatever they do and wherever they live.
