  • The Government of Liberia has commended the World Bank Group (WBG) and its partners for the recent donor meeting, which culminated in the announcement of a US$650 million grant to Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone for the next 12 to 18 months to help them recover from the impact of the Ebola crisis.The government also said it was grateful for the additional commitment, which includes US$300 million from the African Development Bank, US$80 million from GAVI and US$387 million from the Global Fund.(Star Africa)

  • After a nine-month suspension due to the June 2014 Ebola virus outbreak in Liberia last June, World Council of Credit Unions has revived its model credit union building project that aims to bank 40,000 Liberians previously without access to financial services. World Council Chief of Party [..] World Council, which received MasterCard Foundation funding through the U.N. Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), has partnered with the Liberian Credit Union National Association (LCUNA) to rebuild the credit union sector devastated from 15 years of civil war. Representatives from each organization met recently in Monrovia to discuss next steps.(CreditUnionTimes)

  • Street Child Supports 1,500 Back to School: Street Child has been able to support 1,500 orphaned children back to school in Montserrado, Margibi, Grand Bassa and Bomi. In a breakdown of its support, Mr. Kaba Y. Moore, project coordinator of Street Child’s Ebola Orphans, explained that the 1,500 beneficiaries are located in zones. (Liberian Observer)
  • Football idols Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo will lead a star-studded team in a friendly match on Monday aimed at raising money to help Ebola-hit Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.The 12th annual ‘Match Against Poverty’, organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), will be contested in France between French club AS Saint-Étienne and a team of past and present international players.Former France captain Zidane and renowned Brazilian striker Ronaldo, both UNDP Goodwill Ambassadors, will be joined by Ivorian Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, retired Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf and ex-Brazilian captain Cafu.   • The Liberia Albino Society has honored the presidential press secretary for his immense contribution to the association over the years. According to an Executive Mansion release, Mr. Jerolinmek Piah was presented a certificate of honor by the Association’s program committee head, Ms. Ruth Tulay, at his temporary office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, April 17, 2015.
