BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa – The Liberia National Police has sent two suspects to court in connection with the killing of a German national, Juergen Schedemamn, in Big Joe Community near Buchanan.
The suspects, Emmanuel Kollie and Joseph Cole were arrested separately by police. Kollie was arrested in Gbarnga, Bong while Cole was nabbed in Grand Bassa.
The victim was a manager at a logging company in Grand Bassa, International Consultant Capital. Schedemamn was reportedly murdered by assailants on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The 44-year-old German was married to a Liberian, Linda Schedemamn.
As an employee of the company, Schedemamn and his wife lived in Big Joe Town community, where the company is headquartered. Linda Schedemamn believes her husband’s death was a setup, and not an attempted robbery gone wrong. She said he was the only victim, and had up to US$1,600 in cash, along with his ID card, but everything was still neatly in his pocket while he laid dead.
The two suspects have been charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, theft of property, and armed robbery by the police.
According to the charge sheets, the two men and others who are yet to be identified are believed to have taken away items worth US$20,000 from the deceased.
The two suspects were forwarded to the Buchanan Magisterial Court on Saturday morning under heavy police escort. They are both being held at the Upper Buchanan Prison Compound, pending an appearance in court on Monday, Feb. 3.
Meanwhile, the search by police for the remaining assailants continues.
