GANTA, Nimba – A one-day road safety workshop was held at the Ganta United Methodist gymnasium for commercial taxicab drivers, motorcyclists, and the general public.
The workshop was held under the supervision of the Liberia National Police Public Safety Division last weekend.
In an interview with a team of reporters, the head of the Public Safety Division, Nelson Freeman explained the importance of the workshop.
“We have come to sell the idea that public safety is everybody’s concern. It is your concern, it is my concern,†Freeman said. “So, we’re going to teach you vehicle operators these basic rules you need to obey in traffic safety. Because in as much as you keep those rules, the better it is for you and better it is for me.”
Freeman said the government wanted to protect citizens through road safety education because the government considered it a loss when motorists and passengers lose their lives in accidents.
“We know that one day is not sufficient, but if you listen attentively, you can grab a lot of things from there to apply it to your daily safety operations,†he said.
Freeman said as part of the awareness campaign on public safety and to build better relationship with the public, there would be a friendly football match between the police and the Federation of the Road Transport Union.
