MONROVIA, Montserrado – Following a fatal accident along the Buchanan highway involving the vehicle of Grand Bassa’s Superintendent Janjay Baikpeh and a motorcyclist, the Liberia National Police has launched an investigation into the accident.
Baikpeh was riding in the vehicle at the time of the accident, which occurred at Owen Grove on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
According to the police, the superintendent’s blue Hyundai SUV collided with a motorcyclist, Lee Henry, aged 19, on his way to Buchanan, as the motorcyclist drove in the opposite direction.
“Due to the collision, Supt. Baikpeh sustained serious injuries. The motorcyclist, along with two riders, Akakin Wreegbo and Moses Smith, however, suffered unfortunate fatalities,†the police statement said. They were pronounced dead upon arrival at the ELWA Hospital in Paynesville.
“The total number of deaths reported from the accident is three, while Baikpeh and another passenger of the bike, identified as George Yamaha, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the Du-side Hospital in Firestone, Margibi, and the John F. Kennedy Hospital in Monrovia,†the police said.
Vehicular and traffic fatalities remain a leading cause of death across the country as motorists frequently ignore speed limits or go without adequate safety gears.
