GANTA, Nimba – The Ministry of Public Works held a two-day workshop in Ganta last week for resident engineers around the country to be trained in using a newly developed manual for roadway designs.
At least 12 resident engineers gathered to be trained in using the manual, which was developed with assistance from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, also known as SIDA.
The deputy minister for rural development and county services, Jackson Paye addressed journalists on the matter.
“With the help of our development partners, we now have a specification manual that will show us the design of the bridges, culverts, and the procedures in fixing these materials,†he said.
Paye added: “For today, our engineers are on structural calculations and tomorrow they will be going through the technical specification and the method of designing.â€
Following the workshop, Paye said the resident engineers at the training will be dispatched to their various counties where they will dispense their knowledge.
SIDA has been providing assistance to Liberia’s post-war recovery process through the rehabilitation of feeder roads in Bong, Lofa, and Nimba. The agency is expected to extend its initiative to the southeastern region of Liberia in 2017, beginning with Grand Gedeh.
