The British Basketball League season kicked off over the weekend with Newcastle Eagles getting win away at Leeds Force, in a remarkable win for Liberian-born Saah Nimely is making his debut.
The Eagles got their campaign off to a flying start with a record win over Leeds Force at the Carnegie Sports Arena. Â After having won all three of their preseason games, the Eagles proved to be too strong for their host as they went on to grab a record 148-60 win.
Nimely might have just started his professional career in the BBL, but the 24-year-old point guard has shown that he’s a dangerous man on the court. Just 5ft 8in, Nimely got the second highest score on the court to help Newcastle set the single match scoring record of 148. The former Charleston Southern University star scored 27 points, three less than Jaysean Paige.
Newcastle will go in search of a second win when they host Glasgow Rangers in their first home game on Friday, October 6. The match this weekend might be an easy one for the Eagles, who thrashed their opponents during preseason matches. Back then, Nimely scored 26 points to help the Eagles to a 110-77 win over the Rangers in their second preseason game.
