Sam Johnson grabbed two goals and an assist to help his club Djurgården beat Falkenberg 5-0 in round two of the 2016 Swedish Premier League (Allsvenskan).
The 22-year-old made headlines after scoring DjurgÃ¥rden’s first goal of the 2016 league season in a 2-0 away win at Orebro on April 3rd. Johnson again made a big impression with two goals, one in each half, to help set DjurgÃ¥rden with a 5-0 victory over lower-rated Falkenberg.
Now the fast-moving forward, who scored his first goal for Lonestar in its 5-0 thrashing of Djibouti, has vowed to continue his fine form to start the 2016 season.
“My team has started with a very fine form and I’m happy about that,†Johnson told The Bush Chicken. “I’m continuing to get on the score sheet, which is the most important thing for any forward. It’s the result of hard work and commitment. Though it’s just the beginning of the season, I’m not giving up anytime soon. I will continue to work harder to do the best for my team. If we keep this form, we could end up in a good position at the end of the season.”
Since his transfer to Djurgården from IK Frej in 2015, he has made a quick impact on the club with his ability to score goals. In his debut season with Djurgården, he netted ten league goals as Djurgården finished sixth on the league table with 51 points, 15 behind league champions, Norrköping.
With his consistent form, he has admitted that he would one day want to leave Sweden for one of Europe’s top football leagues.
“Everybody in life wants to excel. I’m no different – especially because I’m a footballer. For now, I’m happy at DjurgÃ¥rden. I’m playing well and doing a good job. But to admit one day, I would love to go up and play in the top European leagues. It’s not impossible, I just have to work harder and gradually I can reach the top,” Johnson said.
