ZORZOR, Lofa – The chairman of the Lofa County Peace Committee, who is also the chair of the group tasked with investigating the murder of Saniah Gayflor, has accused the government of failing to bring speedy justice to the citizens of Fissebu in Zorzor District, Lofa County.
Appearing on the Alternative Breakfast Show in Zorzor, William Howard said the report from the fact-finding into the death of Gayflor had since been forwarded to the offices of the Superintendent, the Lofa Legislative Caucus members, Lofa’s Attorney General, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, as well as the Minister of Internal Affairs, but up to current, there has been no redress.
Howard said the report contained several recommendations ranging from reassigning the then police commander Abu Kamara, as well as an apology by Police Support Unit officers to the people of Fissebu, and a search for the perpetrator, a Guinean who is still on the run.
In March 2015, Gayflor was murdered by a Guinean who escaped from the country after the alleged commission of the act. The situations led to the burning of homes and several valuable properties which prompted police deployment into the area to bring calm.
Howard has termed the delay of justice as “unacceptable.†And suggested that the government was not moving on the issue because the family affected is poor.
