PALM BUSH, River Cess – At least two people have lost their lives following an accident involving a motorcycle and a Land Cruiser along the Sinoe-River Cess highway.
The accident occurred on Monday, December 25, between Nimba Junction and Sand Beach Junction, two communities established by former concession company workers along the Sinoe-River Cess highway, about 30 kilometers from Yarpah Town, the second largest city in River Cess.
Alphonso Gbesaygee, the driver of the motorcycle who is believed to be in his 20s, and an unnamed passenger met their untimely death when the Land Cruiser, which was coming from the opposite lane, ran into the motorcycle at 12:45 p.m.
Gbesaygee was rushed to the Liberia Inland Clinic for treatment and later taken to his Palm Bush residence to be transferred to the St. Francis Hospital in Cestos. He died at his Palm Bush residence at about 2:00 p.m. and an hour later, his passenger also died in Cestos at the St. Francis Hospital.
“We are taking the body to the funeral home in Cestos,” said Eric James, the brother of Gbesaygee. “I’m confused, and I don’t know what to do because he was just here.”
The driver of the jeep, who fled the scene for fear of being harmed by an angry mob, reported himself to the Yarpah Town Police Detail and is currently in police custody.
