PAYNESVILLE, Montserrado – The Coalition for Democratic Change standard bearer, George Weah, accumulated more votes in the Rehab community he shares with his competitor, Vice President Joseph Boakai of the ruling Unity Party.
Both Weah and Boakai who contested in the run-off presidential election are residents of the community located in the Monrovia suburb of Paynesville.
Unofficial provisional results indicate that Weah, a senator of Montserrado, won 58 percent of the votes in Rehab.
The CDC candidate obtained 1,448 votes from seven out of eight centers at the Kendeja High School voting precinct where he voted, while the UP candidate obtained a total of 730.
Also at the Sister Kathleen McGuire Memorial Catholic School in Rehab, the CDC candidate obtained 1,137 votes to Boakai’s 962.
The same was repeated at the Calvary Chapel voting precinct at Rehab Junction, where 1,035 and 1,204 were recorded for Boakai and Weah, respectively.
The CDC standard bearer, according to other unofficial results, maintained his lead over his neighbor across most centers in Montserrado’s sixth electoral district.
At Kendeja Community School in the old Kendeja community, close to Rehab, results posted showed Weah with a lead of 1,230 votes to Boakai’s 763. The situation was the same at the King Gray Public School, Solid Rock Christian School, Broluco School, and the Carver Mission voting precincts.
Weah’s lead has demonstrated the CDC’s continuous political control of Montserrado county as shown in previous elections.
