NEW YARPAH TOWN, River Cess – The Chainsaw and Timber Dealers Union of Liberia have donated fuel to the River Cess County Health Team.

Making the presentation on Friday March 2, 2018, the president of the union, Julius Kamara, said the donation is meant to buttress the local government’s efforts.

“We have been listening to the radio and the county health team has been making S-O-S calls for power,” Kamara said. “So, on behalf of the union, I present this fuel to the county health team.”

Receiving the fuel on behalf of the county health team, Sam Kpah, the logistic officer, thanked the union and promised that the fuel would be used for its intended purpose.

“I must admit, this is a kind gesture that you have shown to our county,” Kpah said. He said the donation would make it easier to refer patients from one of the 19 government health facilities to the St. Francis Hospital, the only government referral hospital.

The River Cess County Health Team is faced with numeral challenges, with the lack of affordable electricity being of major concern. Health workers often used small battery-powered lights to respond to emergency cases during the night hours.

Derick Duokie, the director of the Community Health Department within the County Health Team, has in the past told The Bush Chicken that the county lacks basic lifesaving equipment. Recently, the County Health Officer, Dr. Joseph Gayflor, told The Bush Chicken that all four ambulances in the county were down.
