BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa – The Second Judicial Circuit Court in Upper Buchanan, Grand Bassa has handed Shadrach Gee a 30-year sentence for armed robbery and murder.
Gee was one of two defendants that jurors found guilty in an armed robbery case. Janjay Mamie Taykar, the mother of an alleged armed robber still at large (Francis Willie), was also found guilty of criminal facilitation and criminal mischief. She was sentenced to one year in prison.
Jurors had reached the decision to find the co-defendants guilty after 15 days of hearings on Saturday, March 2, 2019, before Judge Joe S. Barkon. The co-defendants were represented by Grand Bassa’s public defender, Cllr. Paul Jarvan, while the state’s case was prosecuted by county attorney Pato Jabba. The judge announced the sentencing last week.
The case is related to a November 8, 2018, armed robbery where criminals shot dead a resident of Lloydsville Township, in Grand Bassa’s first district.
Junior Lloyd was killed while attempting to rescue one of his neighbors, Moses Joe, who had been attacked by criminals at about 2:00 a.m.
In addition to the murder, the robbers had also stolen close to L$500,000 (US$3,227) plus 56 phones. Both Gee and Taykar were arrested separately in Buchanan.
Gee was arrested with L$13,000 (US$84) while Taykar was arrested with the motorcycle used during the robbery, along with several other motorcycles
This is the second time in two years that the Second Judicial Circuit Court has handed down a 30-year sentence for armed robbery. Last year, the court sentenced Jacob Teah, a ring leader of armed robbers in Grand Bassa, to 30 years imprisonment.
