MONROVIA, Montserrado – Two players from two top Liberian first division teams are set to depart for tryouts with Austrian Bundesliga club SK Rapid Vienna.
LISCR Football Club confirmed that they will be without the services of their 18-year-old goalkeeper Ashley Williams through a release on their website. Williams will leave Liberia for Ghana where he will apply for the Austrian visa before departing for Austria to have his tryout with SK Rapid Vienna. The club further wished the 18-year-old goalkeeper good luck.
Williams has been in top form for both his club and the Lone Star’s team since his debut for LISCR FC in 2016-17. Williams guided the Liberian U-20 team to a second-place finish in the 2018 WAFU U-20 Cup before playing for the senior national team. He has had four appearances for the senior national team, with three coming in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and one friendly against Ivory Coast.
Meanwhile, the LPRC Oilers confirmed the departure of Sampson Dweh, who helped them win the first division title. Via their official Facebook page, the unbeaten league champions announced that 17-year-old central defender will go in search for greener pasture in Europe through the help of football agency group, ES Sports Management.
Dweh played a key role in the LPRC Oilers’ league triumph as he combined with veteran Solomon Wesseh in defense to help the LPRC Oilers finish the league as the best defensive team. The Oilers conceded just six times in 22 league games during the 2019 league season.
Dweh’s performances didn’t go unnoticed by the Lone Star’s technical team, which called him for the African Nations Championship qualifiers against Senegal. It was his first call to the national team. However, he won’t be able to make his Lone Star debut as he has departed Liberia to pursue his dream of playing outside of Liberia.
