GREENVILLE, Sinoe – The Sinoe County Health Team is currently observing a foreign national for 14 days, but the county has no suspected or confirmed Coronavirus cases, a spokesperson for the team says.

Following confirmed cases of the Coronavirus in Liberia, the County Health Team says it is working with the National Public Health Institute of Liberia and the World Health Organization to create more awareness at the county level.

In an interview on Monday in Greenville, spokesperson Hosea Smith said an Incident Management System team had been constituted to bring together county stakeholders in order to institute measures to prevent the virus from entering the county.

He said the Indonesian national, who entered Sinoe through a vessel’s arrival at the Port of Greenville and works for Golden Veroleum Liberia, was isolated and is being observed out of caution.

He called on residents to stop spreading misinformation about Sinoe having a confirmed case and to follow guidelines prescribed by health authorities.

Smith said health personnel would work to provide updates on the status of the pandemic and create awareness using radio and community engagement.

The County Health Team’s warehouse still has some personal protective equipment in stock, Smith said, but the lack of funding in terms of logistics could make the awareness work difficult.

“With all of our efforts in making sure to enforce the county-based awareness in all our 356 communities, the issue of funding and logistics – especially fuel and gas to mobile health personnel in those areas – still remains a major challenge,” Smith said.

Meanwhile, Sinoe’s county health officer, Dr. Jonathan Flomo, has said his team is working day and night to ensure that all rules and regulations are followed to prevent the virus from entering the county.
