HARPER, Maryland – Maryland’s county health officer has confirmed that the southeastern county has joined the list of counties recording confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Liberia’s third wave of the pandemic.
Dr. Methodius George told reporters on Tuesday, June 22 that Maryland had recorded three cases. All three patients are stable and are being treated at the J.J. Dossen Hospital in Harper. He added that they are responding positively to treatment.
George urged all residents in the county to take the disease seriously and observe all preventive measures to reduce the spread of the virus. These measures include wearing face masks, avoiding large gatherings, and frequently washing their hands.
“I am just urging every one of us to be very mindful and careful, especially when it comes to the preventive measures because that is one of the ways in which we can break the chain of transmission,” he said.
George said health workers in the county were conducting contact tracing to prevent the further spread of the virus. However, he said they were facing difficulties tracking contacts. He called on the public to remain calm and report to health authorities when they experience the signs and symptoms of the virus to ensure speedy intervention.
In a separate phone interview with The Bush Chicken, George further called on the media to work closely with the Maryland County Health Team to create more awareness about COVID-19.
