Solomon Grimes Wants Lonestar to Remain Humble

Solomon Grimes has warned his teammates to “remain humble” after picking up what he described as an important victory against Djibouti.

The Lonestar produced a stunning second half performance to beat Djibouti 1-0 on March 24 and wrapped it up with a whopping 5-0 thrashing on March 29, at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.

A second half hat-trick from the Spain-based William Jebor and first half goals from skipper Anthony Laffor and Sam Johnson were enough to send the Lonestar on top of Group A with nine points from four matches.

The Cyprus-based defender said while he is impressed by both matches as Liberia grabbed a much needed six points, he is careful not to get too carried away following the triumph.

“You always hope your best matches are ahead of you,” he told The Bush Chicken. “I’m rather hoping there will be one of them ahead. It’s important for us to remain humble in these moments but it was a great performance. It was good we achieved it. It showed character, but also a lot of quality in terms of our thirst for success.”

Liberia will host Togo in June and travel away to Tunisia to complete their qualification matches and needs a maximum of four points from their remaining two games if they are to qualify for the 2017 Gabon African Cup of Nations.

“You see the group, it’s tight. We need to win every match. For me, not only the Togo match is important, but the remaining two matches. It will help us a lot. We are not contemplating on finishing as runner-ups. We want to top the group. In doing so, we have to keep fighting and take every match important,” Grimes concluded.
