GANTA, Nimba – The Nimba Charter of the Liberia National Student Union is calling for financial assistance for its team that is currently participating in the National Meet the Challenge Competition, a knowledge quizzing contest between various counties.

Abigail Freeman, the head of LINSU’s Nimba Charter, also leads the team in the ongoing competition. She said they had reached the semifinal stage of the competition that will be taking place in Monrovia.

Freeman said while the dates for the matches have not yet been confirmed, the team lacks the financial support for the Monrovia trip.

The team’s other fundraising activities have carried them this far in the competition, she said.

“Initially, we did some cleaning up campaign, and also other people came in with help,” Freeman explained. “That is how we have been managing in the process that took us to Grand Gedeh, and now we are successful to be in the semifinal stage of the competition, which will be in Monrovia.”

“Right now, we are asking the public, and we need their help to support us because we do not have money to keep us in Monrovia,” she pleaded.

According to Freeman, the team needs approximately US$1,000 to go towards transportation, food, and lodging.

The competition is being staged by the Liberia National Student Union in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Gender Ministry. Initial rounds of the competition were held in all of the counties. The qualifying teams for the semifinals will meet in Monrovia, after which two teams will go to the grand finale.
