Liberian international defender Adolphus Nagbe Marshall has extended his stay with the newly promoted Maltese first division club Gudja United after a successful year with the club.
The central defender, who also plays at the left back position, agreed to a deal that will keep him at the club until 2020. Marshall signed with the club for an undisclosed fee. His contract extension came less than two weeks after helping the club win the Maltese second division title and gain a promotion to the first division league.
According to a release on the club’s official Facebook page, the club’s president, Duncan Borg Myatt, decided to extend the energetic Liberian defender’s contract because of his hard work during the just-ended season.
The statement from the club read, “Adolphus Marshall has extended his football career with Gudja United for another two years. We wish him all the luck and more success with the club.â€
Marshall was grateful to Gudja United after signing the two-year extension. In an interview with The Bush Chicken, he said he’s happy to remain at the club for the next two years, as he seeks greater challenges.
“I am glad to have extended my contract with Gudja United,†Marshall told The Bush Chicken. “The club has been more than a team to me. They helped me settle in Europe and I’m glad that I will continue to work with them. I came to the club in the second division and now we are in the first division. I’m happy that I will be here for the challenges next season. Our vison to succeed continues and we will come back stronger next season.â€
Marshall moved to Gudja United during the 2017 summer transfer window when he signed a one-year deal with Gudja United with the option of extension. He ended his seven years of playing his professional football career in Indonesia to play his first season in Europe. As a defender, he scored three goals during the season to help Gudja United finish the second division as champions and gain promotion to the first division.
