Less than a week after his name was removed from the final list of local and foreign-based players to represent the Lone Star of Liberia in Sunday’s encounter against the warriors of Zimbabwe, Adolphus Marshall scored the only goal to give his club Gudja United a crucial win away from home.
Marshall, 26, only goal in the 55th minute against Zejtun Corinthians Football Club to keep his club’s hopes of qualification for the final of the Maltese’s first division football league.
With two wins collected from their last seven games, Gudja were desperately in search of the three points which was earned after a strong fight against Zejtun Corinthians Football Club that is lying third from bottom on a 14-team table.
The two teams stormed the pitch with similar objectives, but it was Marshall’s Gudja United that turns out to be the day’s winner.
After both teams failed to score in the first half where two yellow cards were awarded each the two teams, Gudja United returned stronger in the second half with a force which saw them scoring the match’s only goal ten minutes in the second half.  Marshall’s header goal from a set-piece also turned out to be the only goal of the match.
Gudja United held on to their narrow lead for the remaining 35 minutes of the match as they clinched all three points after the sound of the final whistle. His second goal of the 2018 season has now taken Gudja United to the fourth place on the first division league table with 13 points from eight games, five points behind league leaders, Santa Lucia FC. They will go in search of more points when they host the league leaders on Sunday, November 25.
