Amadaiya Rennie has made himself Liberia’s biggest transfer player so far this summer, after ending his five-year stay in Swedish football to join Turkish Super League club Antalyaspor on a two-year deal.
Rennie, who operates as both left and right forward, completed the move to Turkish Super League club after disappointing spells with his last club in Sweden, Hammarby IF.
The signature of Rennie, along with two other new players was confirmed on Antalyaspor’s official website on Tuesday, August 9.
Given that Rennie’s contract was due to expire after the 2016 league season, coupled with his unlimited playing time, both Rennie and Hammarby decided to terminate the contract to give him the chance to seek challenge elsewhere.
Rennie’s new deal will see him play alongside former Barcelona striker and four-time African Player of the Year, Samuel Eto’o; the former Cameroonian international, Jean Makoun; and Senegalese attacker, Lamine Diarra.
Rennie previously played for Mighty Barrolle in the then-Liberia Premier League before moving to Sweden to join Elfsborg. He spent a year with the Under-21 squad before making his way to the senior team in 2010.
In 2011, his lack of playing time with Elfsborg caused him to move to another Swedish top tier club, GAIS.
After spending just two years with Elfsborg, Rennie moved to the Swedish second tier club, Degerfors, where he spent two years playing 71 matches and scoring 14 goals.
His performance with Degerfors caught the attention of several top clubs in Turkey, Norway, and Sweden. However, he joined the Swedish club Hammarby on a three-year deal in 2014, leaving Degerfors as a free agent.
His time with Hammarby was never fruitful, as he struggled to come off the bench during his first year with the club. After being used mostly as a substitute during the first phase of the 2015 Swedish league season, he was loaned to Norwegian second tier club, SK Brann, where he ended his 2015 league season.
