HARBEL, Margibi – The Abundant Life Apostolic Pentecostal Church International has confirmed its founder and General Overseer, Varnie Yarwoo, as bishop of the church.
The coronation took place on Saturday, March 14 in Harbel.
The Order of Bishops was headed by Nathaniel Zarway, Bishop of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith.
John Kunkun of the Church of God City of Light, Allen Klayee of Jubilee Praise and Worship Center, and Matthew Worijloh Kantan of Evangel World Outreach Ministries Incorporated were also part of the team bishops involved in the ceremony.
Speaking on the theme, “The Call to Follow Christ,†Bishop Zarway encouraged the new bishop to remain committed to his call to provide Christian leadership and lead the church in true faith.
He added that as a shepherd and follower of Christ, Yarwoo must uphold his responsibility as a leader and keep the flocks of God together. “A bishop in God’s holy church is called to be with the apostles in proclaiming Christ’s resurrection, interpreting the gospel and to testify to Christ’s sovereignty as Lord and King of Kings,†he said.
Bishop Zarway said that the objective of the church is to guard the faith, ensure unity and discipline among its congregants, celebrate the sacraments of the covenant and ordain elders and deacons who courageously dedicate their lives to service. Bishop Zarway called on Yarwoo to be a faithful pastor and wholesome example for the entire flock of Christ and to join in ordaining bishops when authorized.
The APCI was founded in 1997 in Harbel by a then 25-year old Yarwoo and had a five-person membership. The church has grown over the years and now has international branches in the United States and Sierra Leone. In Liberia, APCI has locations in Du-Port Road, Monrovia, Cotton Tree, and Lower Margibi with its Headquarters in Harbel. It also has over 4,000 members worldwide.
Yarwoo said during the ceremony that he “planned to conform to the doctrine, discipline and worship of the apostolic church.†He said his calling was to “offer more in the confidence that it will be used to provide service and care to the world.â€
