MONROVIA, Monsterrado – Liberians playing abroad resumed action with their respective clubs over the weekend after participating in the Lone Star’s painful exit from the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
The Cyprus-based midfielder Theo Weeks made his return to Ermis’ 18-man squad after seven weeks of a hamstring injury. However, the Liberian international watched all the 90 minutes from the bench as his side got a disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Doxa.
Ermis has been struggling since the start of the season. With 11 league games played, Ermis is seated at 12th place on a 14-team log with eight points.
Kpah Sherman’s Mpumalanga Black Aces continued their fine winning form in the South African ABSA Premiership after an emphatic 2-0 victory away at Bloemfontein Celtic. The victory keeps the Black Aces in third place with 21 points from eleven matches.
Still in South Africa, 30-year-old forward Anthony Snothi Laffor was left out of the Mamelodi Sundowns team that got a 4-1 win over the Free State Stars. Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane opted to rest the fast moving attacker who had just returned from international duty. The Sundowns move to second on the league table with 23 points from eleven matches.
In Turkey’s Super League, Tonia Tisdell’s Osmanlıspor suffered their sixth defeat of the season, after a 1-0 home defeat to Rizespor. Tisdell replaced Kılıçaslan in the 82nd minute to make his second league appearance of the season.The 23-year-old forward has been struggling with a calf injury since the beginning of the season.
Osmanlıspor’s defeat drops them to the 12th position on the Super League Table with 14 points in 12 games.
Meanwhile in Greece’s Second Tier League, the Liberia international striker Herron Berrian played all 90 minutes as his club Panserraikos bowed to a 1-0 defeat away at Panelefsiniakos.
The loss drops Panserraikos to seventeenth place on an eighteen team log with seven points from eight games. Panserraikos has endured a poor start to the 2015-2016 league season, winning only twice and earning a draw from nine league matches.
Berrian has made nine league appearances for Panserraikos, and he is still scoreless.
After an unsuccessful spell with Super League club Plantania, Berrian joined Panserraikos during the 2015 summer transfer window.
