BOPOLU CITY, Gbarpolu – Bopolu’s Mayor Siah Kieh-Victor has announced the launch of the Boakai for Clean City initiative on July 12.

Kieh-Victor told The Bush Chicken that the initiative’s goal is to give Bopolu a major facelift and make it beautiful to reflect its status as the capital of Gbarpolu.

She said the initiative also aims to transform the city into an eco-friendly and sustainable urban environment for inhabitants and visitors.

The mayor named the deputy internal affairs minister for administration, Samuel Browne, as the key launcher of the initiative, while Gbarpolu’s Senator Amara Konneh will serve as co-launcher.

She thanked the citizens and former officials of the county for the overwhelming support she has received since her appointment by President Joseph Boakai.

The city mayor emphasized the need for ongoing support to sustain the momentum of the Boakai for Clean City Initiative campaign beyond just the official launch ceremony. She has also underscored the importance of community involvement in realizing the initiative’s goals, urging city residents to actively participate in the campaign.

“I call upon all residents to join me in making our dreams of a cleaner and more sustainable city a reality. Together, we can create a better future for Bopolu City,” she said.

Meanwhile, Kieh-Victor has warned all city residents to build latrine facilities in their homes. She said non-compliance would lead to a fine of not less than US$50.

She also reminded those owning properties within the city limits to promptly clear them of bush and keep them always clean, in line with city ordinances. She said her office would uphold high standards of environmental stewardship, and anyone who violates would face the total weight of the law.
