MONROVIA, Montserrado – Ahead of the 2016-2017 Liberia Football Association league season, LFA first division champion Barrack Young Controllers has strengthened its squad by signing Ketu Jerbo for an undisclosed amount.
Jerbo caught the attention of top clubs in Liberia following his spectacular display for ELWA United during the 2016 LFA first division league season, but it was BYC that won the race to sign the 18-year-old, who was also pursued by FC Fassell.
BYC President Sekou Conneh described Jerbo as a player capable of helping BYC defend the league title.
“As part of our program, we look for quality players, and Ketu is a player we have been monitoring for some amount of time,†he said. “We are happy we finally reach an agreement with him, and we strongly believe his addition to the squad will help us defend our title.â€
Following his unveiling ceremony, Jerbo said joining BYC was a dream of his.
“BYC is a very big club in Liberia that every young player will want to play for,†the young footballer said. “I’m happy today I joined them. It is a dream move, and it’s time that I work harder to prove my worth. It is time that I remain focused [on] reaching another higher level.â€
Jerbo, who has represented Liberia at the Under-20 level, praised his former club ELWA United for helping him grow as a player.
“Today I’m here because of ELWA United,†he said. “They helped me develop a lot as a young player. They taught me more about the game. I have joined BYC and may move to other clubs in the future, but ELWA will remain in my heart as long as I live. I will always support them as long as I’m alive. I wish them success in the upcoming league season.â€
