SANNIQUELLIE, Nimba – After leading the Nimba health system for over four years, Dr. Collins Bowah has now been transferred to Bong as chief of the Bong County Health System.
In a brief farewell ceremony held in Sanniquellie, Bowah outlined several achievements made in the county’s health sector since he took over in November 2013. Bowah described the county system as “completely broken†when he first sat at the helm.
“As a matter of fact, because of the kind of system we built, Nimba County came the second best performing county in health in Liberia in our last health conference held in Monrovia,†Bowah said.
He noted that a site was secured to relocate the George Way Harley Hospital, the Nimba County Health Team established its own facility in Sanniquellie, and that there was an increase in the number of health centers and health workers in the county.
Additionally, Bowah said health centers in the county are now ensuring that staff quarters are constructed to provide better accommodation for health workers assigned from other locations.
Bowah noted that he had no control over his reassignment, but he said he was confident of the system he had helped build over the years and trusted those taking over.
“I know that our health system is in place right now, and I know that those who are there will continue the good work that we started,†he said.
Bowah’s transfer is one of several shuffling of county health officers by the Ministry of Health.
The newly assigned county health officer for Nimba, Dr. Philip Farh, has promised to uphold the “good works†of his predecessor. He said he would work in unity with members of the team to achieve more success.
