GBARNGA, Bong – The Joseph Nyuma Boakai Foundation has donated US$175,000 in assorted medical supplies to the Phebe Referral Hospital in Gbarnga.

The supplies, including hospital bed linens, surgical caps, laryngoscopes, oxygen tank regulators, oximeters, and stethoscopes, were delivered on Wednesday, August 7.

The foundation’s executive director, Jackson George, emphasized its commitment to enhancing the healthcare sector.

“We are here to supplement government efforts in providing healthcare delivery to the people. We intend to partner with the hospital to do more,” George said.

According to him, the supplies were part of a larger consignment valued at over US$450,000, acquired by the foundation from CURE, a U.S.-based charity project based in Colorado.

He revealed that previous deliveries were made to other government-run hospitals nationwide, including the C.H. Rennie Hospital in Margibi and Redemption Hospital in Montserrado. Hospitals in other counties, including Bomi, are expected to benefit soon.

The medical items are crucial for critical medical procedures in the various hospitals, George said, adding that more will be done by the foundation to support the needs of Liberians.

Receiving the supplies, Phebe Hospital’s medical director, Dr. Minnie Sankawolo-Ricks, thanked the foundation and its founder, President Joseph Boakai, for the donation.

Ricks said the items would help the hospital’s administration save lives and expressed hope for continued support.

For his part, Bong’s county health officer, Dr. Jefferson Sibley, thanked the foundation for the initiative, describing it as a relief for the hospital’s administration and the county health team. Sibley revealed that some of the equipment received are what the hospital has long looked forward to having. He assured that the supplies would be used for the intended purpose.
