KAKATA, Margibi – President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has appointed Joshua Robinson as the new Assistant Superintendent for Development in Margibi. Robinson was appointed on May 6, 2016.
If confirmed by the Liberian Senate, he will replace Attorney-at-Law Victoria Duncan.
Duncan resigned as Assistant Superintendent for Development in February this year. She was later sworn in as Stipendiary Magistrate of the Kakata Magisterial court.
Robinson is also currently the Superintendent of the Mboo Statutory District.
He replaced Henric Marcus Speare on July 7th last year. Speare was removed as Superintendent of the statutory district five years after he was appointed to serve in the office.
He termed his removal as political. According to him, there was no reason given by the president for his removal.
The cordial relationship that Speare enjoyed with Representative Ballah Zayzay of Margibi’s second district became sour when he failed to support the election of Jim Tornonlah of the People Unification Party. Tornonlah was the choice of Zayzay and other Lawmakers including Emmanuel Nuquay and Stephen Kafi of the fifth and third districts of Margibi, respectively.
Many citizens of Margibi perceived Speare’s removal to have been influenced by some lawmakers of the county.
The position of Assistant Superintendent for Fiscal Affairs remains vacant. Since the new position was created, no one has been appointed to fill the office in Margibi.
Robinson was among a list of new officials appointed on May 6, 2016.
Sirleaf’s new appointments affected the Ministries of Internal Affairs, Justice, and State for Presidential Affairs. Other areas were the Ministry of Public Works, the Central Bank of Liberia, National Port Authority, and Law Reform Commission.
Former River Gee County Senator Fredrick Cherue was appointed as Minister of Justice. He will replace Benedict Sannoh, who resigned his post last month.
Also appointed were Liberty Party’s Chairman Fonati Koffa as Minister of State without Portfolio; Mounir Siaplay, Deputy Governor for Economic Policy at the Central Bank of Liberia; and James Bestman, Chairman of the Board of the National Port Authority.
Others are Ruth Jappah, Commissioner at the Law Reform Commission; and Othello Doe Nagbe, Assistant Superintendent for Fiscal Affairs of Sinoe County.
